Our workshop in Ardèche, France
Our workshop in Ardèche, France

The AKAMAE weavings, crafted in Ghana, are transported to our workshop in Saint-Pierreville, in Ardèche, a mountainous french region. Eve oversees the workshop, shaping the bags before dispatching them to clients in France and beyond.

Upon arrival from Ghana, straw volumes are delivered in large sacks and require reshaping in water. This process takes place at the village's main fountain, located just steps away from the workshop. Additionally, Eve handcrafts the handles using full skins of vegetable-tanned French leather. With the assistance of Jacques, they skillfully stitch the handles onto the straw to create the finished bags.

In addition to being in the village where an old friend of mine, Eve, lives, having our workshop in a small isolated village brings a rich ecosystem of support and resources. This environment facilitates smoother production and mirrors the lifestyle of the weavers in Ghana, where the social network is strong and close to nature.
