TSAONE BACKPACKS
2015
TSAONE is a series of 4 straw backpacks. They are a continuation of my Master’s thesis research titled EXPLORATION ON STRAW where I dived into the craft of straw hat-making in Europe. Made of hand-braided rye straw stitched together in spirals and then folded, the flexible forms of the bags explore how scale and volume impact the design process. Black vegetable-tanned leather handles contrast with the golden straw surfaces. The pieces are handmade by the straw hat maker Marie Berna and myself.
