SOAP SHOW

2022

In August 2022, the Studio Fotokino (Marseille) invited the designer Simon Genest and I for a one month creative residency. Together we developed a research project around the famous Marseille soap, then worked both together and individually, in collaboration with La Savonnerie du Midi located in the 15th district of Marseille.
Iconic product resulting from a traditional know-how, we treated the soap of Marseille as a living and polyformic matter, in close collaboration with the master soap makers. The restitution of this residency testifies to a time of exploration and discovery (since neither of us had worked with this material before), which allowed us to use soap for its plastic qualities, to divert it from its primary function for use as both a lacquer and as a glue, or to exploit the physical characteristics specific to the different stages of its manufacture.
Our research was presented during the exhibition SOAP SHOW at the Fotokino gallery and at the museum of the soap factory in Marseille, a scenography entirely formed of soap. More about the residency.
