Presenting four handcrafted sculptural towers created for La Garçonne in New York. Composed of an ever growing vocabulary of woven shapes, this project is a testimony to the art of 3D weaving where the most simple material, wild straw, is magnified into sinuous surfaces. Based in Marseille, Inès Bressand works with artisanal basket weavers in Ghana, to create forms to carry and observe.

AKAMAE edition 20. TO CONTAIN

2020

This edition looks at boxes, pots and all that we carry enclosed in a container. Inspiration comes from Mediterranean amphoras and traditional farmers baskets. Some bags are round and do not stand, but close with a secure lid developed for the occasion, while others stand straight unaided and open generously. Curving around the straw are the handles. They slide into each other, are sometime attached voluntarily low to bring a creative balance. They are the accent which reveals the functionality of these elegant objects for the daily life.
